Five quick shed assembly tips
Thinking about getting a small storage shed like this to reduce some clutter in your home? Well, here are five things that you’ll need to know about the assembly before you get started.
Follow the instructions!! Don’t get creative or think you know better than following the instructions. The screw placement, panel and support placement are all very specific and any missed steps will reveal themselves quickly. But the good news is that the instructions are very good.
Organize yourself!! Spread all of your parts out before you get started with the label up, stack all identical panels and parts together, and put your nuts, bolts and screws into separate containers (raid your recycle bin for containers).
Power tools are a must: you will need at the minimum an electric drill, an electric ¼ inch impact driver will be helpful, as will an electric screwdriver.
Expect it to take 3-5 hours: as an experienced handyman it takes me five hours to assemble a 6x6 and about 4 to assemble a 6x4, with the roof assembly being the single longest portion to assemble.
The ground underneath needs to be level or as close to level as possible. It may not seem like a big deal until the very last step when the doors will not close properly. Not only the ground needs to be level, but every panel and support piece needs to be as close to level as possible otherwise the doors will not close properly. Some modifications can be made to get them to close, but if the ground and supports are that far off of level then there is little you can do to get the doors to close properly.
